Growatt Solar Inverter PV Isolation Low
Is your Growatt Solar Inverter showing a PV Isolation Low message?
When your Growatt solar inverter is operating correctly the inverter light will be a solid green. When the light is red it indicates that your inverter has detected a fault with the system – the particular fault details are displayed on the screen.
Growatt Solar Inverter PV Isolation Low – What does it mean?
According to the Growatt solar inverter manual a PV Isolation Low message on your inverter is telling you that the inverter has detected a problem with the insulation on the system. That’s helpful isn’t it? What this means is the system has detected leakage of electricity in the system to earth, and this condition is called an earth fault. The following list are some of the common causes of solar power earth faults that would make a Growatt solar inverter display a PV Isolation Low message:
- Moisture ingress in the solar panels
- Moisture ingress in the cabling, plugs, isolators or inverter
- Damage to cables in the solar power system
The first thing we recommend you try is a reboot of your solar power system.
Rebooting Your Growatt Solar Inverter
It is possible that the error you are seeing with your Growatt inverter is just a glitch which will be fixed by a system reboot. To reboot your Growatt solar inverter please follow these steps:
- Turn OFF the solar supply main switch (or inverter AC isolator if present).
- Turn OFF the PV array DC isolator.
- Wait for the inverter screen to go completely blank and the red fault light to turn off.
- Turn ON the PV array DC isolator.
- Turn ON the solar supply main switch (or inverter AC isolator if present).
- Wait a few minutes while the inverter boots back up.
If immediately after restarting the inverter you see the error message “PV isolation low” unfortunately it appears you may have an issue with your system which is going to require the services of a solar accredited electrician to find the fault and advise you further. If you are in South East QLD somewhere near the Gold Coast or Brisbane area we can help.
For further advice please complete the form above under the URGENT heading and we’ll assist you further.

Mine (Sungold 3000) comes up with PV isolation low, but mostly after/always after, drizzle or rain. Reboots normally on/after a fully sunny day. I suspect cabling (at junction box on roof) and connectors between PV panels although for the number of years it has been giving me issues a dud panel is not out of the question either. What do you think? An electrician down here will charge me a third to half the cost of a new inverter to troubleshoot.
PS. I live at the beach in SA where salt in the wind is a major issue with everything
Hi Stephen, this issue is most likely not an inverter issue but an issue with the solar panel side. Unfortunately being close to the beach these issues are very common. It will require a local solar expert to work out exactly what the issue is. Thanks
I am using Orcedo 10000 and that inverter is give pv isoolation low fault from 5AM in the mornig to 9AM and then it continue to make production. I have checked the insulation and the earthing everything is perfect.
I dont why is it keep doing this?
Hi Issac, usually a PV isolation low fault in the morning will be caused by earth leakage caused by dew on the solar panels. When the dew dries up by mid-morning the inverter sees that the earth fault has cleared and resumes operation.
i possess an growatt 5000UE inverter which has been working for 2 yrs now and pumped almost 12567 kilowatts of energy working before few days and now displays pv insulation low. Kindly if anyone do help in resolving this issue which would be of great help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Hi Vinod, Thanks for contacting us. The PV Insulation fault is showing because your inverter has detected that there is voltage leakage down to earth at some point in your PV array. Most probably your inverter is working fine and the problem is with your panels.
Please What does it Mean this code Warning 111 in the inverter growatt 10kw
Sorry Rostom the Error Code 111 is not in the Growatt Sungold fault list so we are not sure. If you find out anything please let us know so we can let other people know as well.
Hi , I have inverter Growatt TL 15000 . From one week every morning inverter showing error “125 – PV isolation low”. It has 3 strings with 24 panels . When I demount one of the strings (no matter which one) -everything is fine. I have no internet connection and not registered at data logger. Can you help me to resolve this problem? What can I do. Thanks
Hi Erol, sorry to hear about the issue you are having with your Growatt inverter, it does sound like it’s a panel issue more than an inverter issue though. The isolation fault you are having sounds like a cumulative fault, so the more panels you have connected to the inverter the lower the resistance to earth. It sounds like you will need to find a local solar power electrician to assist you further with this one.
Thanks for this post, it saved me some money, one of the MC4 connectors was not fully clipped.
Great to hear Darrell, glad we could help.
Hi Rostom! Hi Simon!
Do you already have some info about the Warning Message 111 regarding GROWATT inverter?
Thanks!
Samuel
Hi Samuel, This is referring to an (IGBT) internal fault with the inveter. You will need a local solar expert to submit a warranty claim if still covered or replace the inverter.
Hi Simon,
I found a MC4 connector not clipped very well and I make better grounding around panels .After that my issue is gone. Thanks
Well done Erol, good to hear you were able to get your Growatt isolation low issue sorted. Thanks for letting us know.
Hi,
I have a 10000tl growatt inverter with 2 strings of 5kw panels showing pc isolation low error since it’s commission time.earthingvidms well.when I checj the voltage with Multimeterthe total pv voltage is 630vdc & the +ve to ground is 300v constant.-ve to ground is 60vdc.i don’t know what to do.please help me to sort out this.
Hi Linson, it sounds like you have an earth fault problem on the DC side of your system. This could be an issue with the panels with moisture getting into them, it could be damage to the cabling or isolators etc. We recommend you get in toucg with a local solar accredited electrician who can assist you further with this. If you are on the Gold Coast or Brisbane area we can can certainly help.
Hello, mij Growatt 3000 gives an warning 111…what can i do ??
Sorry Marchel but we do not know of a Growatt Warning 111 message, it isn’t a 117 message by any chance is it? 117 is a relay error message, for more information on the Growatt error 117 click here.
Hi , i have a pv isolation low message on my growatt unit. I have neg to grd 0 volts and poss to ground 0 volts. Poss to neg = 345volts.
Not sure where to go next.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.
hi, I have a Growatt 8k mtlp us, it doesn’t show any alarm and it works great, but when I measure PV – to earth it show a 180v, and there is also a voltage on each pv+ to earth, that happens only when the inverter is working, there is no alarm and the inverter works fine, I have already tried to disconnect the ground and disconnect the Strings one per one, and the voltage value between pv- to earth is still at 180. Should I leave it like this?
Thanks for your question, you really need to take some resistance readings of the DC strings with a Meg Ohm meter. Put it on the 500V range and make sure that both positive and negative cables at the inverter to the solar panels have a resistance of greater than 20 MOhm to earth. If the resistance is less than that you may have an earth fault somewhere on the solar panel side of the system, if the resistance is higher than 20 MOhms it may be a problem with the inverter. I hope that helps!
Hi Javier, you could try and take some measurements of the strings with a Meg Ohm meter, it sounds like you have an earth fault somewhere. This may be due to moisture getting into the solar panels, moisture in an isolator or damage to the solar cables.
Hi there fellow Growatt inverter owners..not too much goes faulty with the inverters themselves. However around the time when many of these units were being sold, most solar panels were manually sealed into their frames..and the process was sometimes less than perfect. Water /moisture can wick it’s way into the edge of the glass laminate and through a complex process it actually can reach the bus bar strips that are closest to the glass edge. From my experience it is possible to take down a panel…allow it to dry out thoroughly over a period…not just a few days, then apply a top grade silicon sealant along the glass frame interface. What also can contribute to the problem developing in the first place is when the panels are mounted at a low angle making it easy for water to remain sitting along the lower edge of the panels. But as I’ve explained all is not lost..Also in earlier panels the diode box was largely unsealed, and on foggy days with 100% humidity, the exchange of air in the box is enough to increase the earth leakage. BUT..after many years seeing this effect.apart from the leakage delaying the switch on of the inverter , it is not really a problem.
Hi Simon.
I have a growatt 5000mtl about 8 years old. Since the wet season arrived I’ve been getting the dreaded pv isolation low fault each morning. So i switch off the 3 input isolaters, reboot them 10 seconds later and it starts no problem. It can be raining, and will still restart. Does this sound like a inverter problem. Been doing this for 30 days straight.
Hi Graeme, it sounds like the inverter is probably fine, it’s most likely an issue somewhere on the solar panel side of the system. I’d recommend getting in touch with a local solar accredited electrician to assist you further.
I have installed a Growatt model name Min.5000 TL-X about a year and a half ago and its saved me heaps on my power bill.
Over the past month or so it beeps every 20-30 minutes. Is this a fault?
Hi Alexander, during normal operation I wouldn’t expect your Growatt inverter to beep. I’d recommend checking on the inverter screen at the time of the beep. Is it showing a fault code or error message?
Don’t buy Growatt at all. Biggest piece of s@@t i ever bought.
Sorry to hear that’s been your experience with Growatt!
I have a problem PV isolation low since installation one month, Growatt inverter. 2 strings are attached. After 1 week research I found one of my string giving PV isolation error. For correction of this error I have to shut down the dc breaker of this string and after a minute I have to turn it on. I checked everything but could not find any fault.
Hi Shafqat, sorry to hear of the issue you are having. I’d recommend getting a local solar power expert to have a looks at your system to rectify the PV isolation low fault.
