At Gold Coast Solar Power Solutions we aim to make it as simple as possible for you to start benefiting from solar power with the help of solar power rebates.

The Government solar power rebates & incentives that are available change all the time, here is a list of the solar power rebates available in plain English. Wherever possible we will take the available rebates as a point of sale discount, to make your solar power investment as affordable as possible.

Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) Solar Power Financial Incentives

Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) are the Australian federal government’s primary form of financial incentive to support the installation of solar power systems.

Solar power systems installed by accredited solar power installers using approved solar panels and inverters generate STCs, with one STC (Small-scale Technology Certificate) being equivalent to 1MWh of renewable energy generated. The number of these solar credits received is determined by the size of the solar power system; and obviously the bigger the solar power system is the more renewable energy will be generated and subsequently the number of STCs generated will be larger. What this all means in dollar terms for you can be calculated in the STC Calculator above.

Between now and the year 2030 the number of STC’s that a solar power system is eligible for will drop as each year the STC “deeming” period gets closer to 2030. In 2017 you are eligible for a 14 year deeming period, in 2018 that will be dropping to 13 years and on until 2030.

At Gold Coast Solar Power Solutions we take the STC solar power financial incentive as a point of sale discount on the cost of your system, so you don’t have to worry about doing anything in regards to STC’s other than signing our paperwork. We look after it all from there!

Queensland’s Solar Power Net Feed-In Tariff

The Queensland government has now removed all feed in tariffs for new solar power systems and have instead left feed in tariffs in the hands of the electricity retailers. Electricity retailers such as Urth Energy pay up to 10c per kWh for surplus solar power sent back to the power grid.

Even though the solar power feed in tariffs on the Gold Coast are quite low in value don’t despair! Solar power can still be a huge asset to your property! The QLD state government have shifted the goal posts in regards to solar power but with the goal posts being shifted it just means we need to play the game to suit. You can maximise the savings from your solar power system by using your power from 9am to 3pm as this power will be taken from your solar power system rather than from the grid – effectively powering your property for free from the sun!

NSW Net Solar Power Feed-in Tariff

For residents at the far south of the Gold Coast located in NSW unfortunately the NSW state government does not currently have a solar power feed in tariff in place, however certain electricity retailers individually offer different feed in tariffs that you can take advantage of. If you are consuming a fair amount of power during the day solar power can still be a very valuable investment as your daytime power consumption can be offset by your solar power system – power saved means more money in your pocket!

The current rate that small businesses and residential customers pay in NSW for electricity is extremely high: currently in the order of 32c per kWh! If that power is being consumed during the day it is far more cost effective to produce that power yourself with solar power, in most cases a solar power system will pay for itself in 4-5 years and provide you with free electricity for many more years to come.

Solar Sport & Community Group Grants

The Queensland Government did offer solar sport and community group grants; all applications for these grants has now closed.

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)

RECs are also known as Small-Scale Technology Certificates or STC’s, have a look at the top of this page for more information on STC’s and how they can be taken as a point of sale discount on the installation of your solar power system. RECs are available when complete solar hot water and heaters are installed or when renewable energy is produced say by a solar power system, micro-hydro or wind system. To receive RECs there are certain conditions that need to be fulfilled. The price of certificates vary. RECs can be traded in for money.

RECs are released by the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator which initially was created to ensure that the Australian Government meets its Mandatory Renewable Energy Target (MRET).
