Reading your Energex electricity meter

After seeing this, do you still want to read your Energex meter?

If so the video below will show you how to read your Energex electricity meter, but don’t say we didn’t warn you! :-)

This video covers the 3 electricity meters used by Energex on the Gold Coast:
The EM1000 single phase Energex meter
The EM1200 single phase dual tariff Energex meter
The Atlas EDMI three phase Energex meter

Reading the EM1000 single phase Energex Electricity meter

Energex EM1000 Electricity MeterThe standard single phase digital electricity meter that Energex use is the EM1000. The EM 1000 is very simple to read; if you have solar power it will scroll between two readouts (You can press the scroll button to scroll between the readouts):

  1. Positive Reading (no – sign before reading). This reading tells you the power that you have taken from the grid since the meter was installed in kWh.
  2. Negative Reading (- sign before reading). This reading tells you how much power in kWh you have sent back to the grid as surplus to your requirements. If you are on the old higher feed in tariff of 44c to 52c then you want as much surplus as possible; learn how to maximise your solar surplus here. If you are on the lower 6c to 12c feed in tariff you want as little surplus power as possible; learn how to maximise your solar self consumption here.

Reading the EM1200 single phase Energex Electricity meter with Off Peak

Energex EM1200 Electricity MeterThe EM1200 is a single phase digital electricity meter used by Energex at times when they require a meter for an off peak supply as well. The EM 1200 is very simple to read; if you have solar power it will scroll between three main readouts with the readout designation number showing above where the meter says “Ripple” (You can press the scroll button to scroll between the readouts):

  1. Ripple 01 Reading. This reading tells you the power that you have taken from the grid since the meter was installed in kWh.
  2. Ripple 30 Reading. This reading tells you the power that you have taken from the grid on your off peak tariff since the meter was installed in kWh.
  3. Ripple 40 Reading.

Reading the Atlas EDMI 2 or 3 phase Energex Electricity meter

Atlas EDMI 3 phase Energex meterThe standard two or three phase digital electricity meter that Energex use is the Atlas EDMI polyphase meter. The Atlas EDMI is very simple to read; if you have solar power it will scroll between two readouts (You can press the scroll button to scroll between the readouts):

  1. 001 Reading (001 displayed on LHS of display). This reading tells you the power that you have taken from the grid since the meter was installed in kWh.
  2. 040 Reading (040 displayed on LHS of display).
