We've had our Israel SolarEdge Optimiser (as opposed to a string system) solar system installed for about 2 months now and absolutely love it. The installation went very smoothly, no drama, all within one day. Excellent after-sales support. Simon came back to fix an issue at an instant when I contacted them and took the time to respond to my non-electrician stupid and pedantic questions after the install on a few other occasions patiently. Highly recommend them. Update: 3+yrs down the track after the instal, we are still very happy with the Gold Coast Solar Power Solutions after-sale customer care and have no problems with the installer.  However, we can't say the same for SolarEdge (the inverter manufacturer).  The SolarEdge SE10000HD failed twice in 3 years.  The first failure happened 2yrs and 2mths after the instal and then the replacement failed again in 12mths.  SolarEdge will not even extend the 12 year warranty even though the product failed so shortly after the install, and happening twice within 3 years.  They said they will happily keep replacing. Of course, we are not expecting the product to last more than 12yrs now after having it replaced twice in 3yrs, the last one only lasting 12mths.  So if you're after an inverter with longevity over its warranty timeframe, this will not cut it.  After the first failure, GC Power Solutions advised that SolarEdge was offering a free upgrade of the inverter to a Hybrid inverter but only if we purchased the battery which cost about $12-13k including installation.  When the product failed again the second time, again they said the same thing. They will only offer a free upgrade if we purchase the battery (which I presume will be at least $12k or more by now). That appears to me like a sales tactic to get rid of a known product issue (which SolarEdge denies) and at the same time profit from it by making another sale for their battery.  If you have the same issue with SolarEdge, please lodge a complaint with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (www.accc.gov.au) to investigate into potentially an unfair, unconscionable, misleading practices for selling an unfit product.  Check how often the inverters are being replaced before you make a decision - something we've learnt by experience, albeit too late, so hopefully this review will help someone.

After an initial consult we replaced an old inverter and panels with a  new system.  The install was easy, pricing clear and no surprises.  They helped to pick the right system, did professional roof inspection to ensure the best layout, used the latest technology to connect my mobile to the inverter to monitor solar activity etc.   This system has been flawless, the install was all tidy with no problems, respect for existing property when installed. Common Home Solar Battery FAQ's

Everyone has a few questions so here are the most common.

Can I install any battery I want?

No. You need to make sure that the battery you are looking at will be compatible with your current system. Call us to discuss this more.

Can I fit any size battery?

Yes.. but, there’s no point installing a large capacity battery (say 10kWh or more) if you only have a small existing solar system (say 2kW). To charge your battery you need enough surplus solar power to charge it, and an incorrectly sized system could mean that your expensive battery is never even charged! Get in touch with us, we can ensure your solar and battery system is designed correctly.

Will my existing solar inverter work with any battery?

Not necessarily. Depending on which battery you want to install, you may need to upgrade to a modern hybrid inverter or one compatible with the battery you are looking to purchase. AC-coupled battery systems are compatible with most inverters whereas DC-coupled systems are more specific. We can help with this decision so give us a call.

What's the difference between AC and DC-coupled?

AC-coupled and DC coupled describes how the battery is charged with your surplus solar power.

An AC-coupled system will have the solar inverter convert your surplus solar power into AC power. The battery will then take this surplus AC power and convert it back to DC to charge the battery. This system is compatible with most existing solar inverters but isn’t the most efficient due to the number of steps in the charging process.

DC-coupled systems take any surplus DC power straight from the solar panels and charge the batteries with it. This is a more efficient way to charge batteries but requires a hybrid inverter, so it’s not compatible with most existing solar inverters.

Are solar house batteries safe?

You’ve heard of lithium battery fires before, and most solar home batteries use lithium technology. It is important to note though that not all lithium batteries are the same, there are actually some big differences.

The batteries that we offer all use lithium-iron phosphate cells (LiFePO4) which have a far superior safety profile compared to other lithium-ion chemistries.
